We have been learning about Whales. Here are some descriptions the children have written this week.
Whale Description
This is a description about whales.I will be telling you what they look, and what they act like.
Toothed whales have lots of rows of skinny teeth. Whales have big tongues that stick to the roof of their mouth like peanut butter. Baleen whales, like the blue whale, are usually bigger than toothed whales. The orca (or the killer whales) is black and white.
Lots of whales like to show off by doing a twist in the air when they jump out of the water. When they jump back in they make a HUMUNGOUS splash, louder than a snore. They swim through the water, then dart up quickly, blowhole first, then squirt out some water and breathe in some air. They swim through the water like LIGHTNING to get away from DANGEROUS creatures with sharp teeth that could kill them.
I really like whales because they are really big.

Whales
Today I am going to talk about whales!
Whales have big mouths with rows of teeth, bumpy lumps,a big long tongue sticking to the roof of their mouth and barnacles that looks like big blobs of paint.
Whales go up to breathe. When whales breathe they twist around. Whales try to show off by doing torpedoes through the swirling water and slap their slashing tails through the dark water. Whales jump out quickly to breathe, blowholes first.
That’s all I’m going to talk about today. Do you like whales? I do!

Whales
MIST LIKE SHATTERED CRYSTALS COMING OUT THE BLOWHOLE.
A GIGANTIC PATTERNED SMASHING FLUKE!!!!
Water that looks like smashed glass.
Extremely BUMPY big chin.
Barnacles cover the flipping fin.
A shiny bubble made of some interesting foam.
Extra dirty disgusting green water.
Golden eyes poke out the water.
Wonderful flukes come out just like a jack in the box.

Whales
Dorsal fin white as snow, a fin as sharp as a pizza piece the size of a sky scraper. Yes, the blue whale is the biggest whale in the world. but it is not just blue it also has white spots on its body and is up to 85 to 99 feet tall and 26 to 30 feet long.
The baleen whales eat krill and the toothed whales eat fish. But both baleen and toothed give birth to their young.
Dolphins may look like dolphins but they are also in the whale family along with porpoises, plus dolphins are the most intelligent creatures in the world (incredible eh?).
They may have different names and sizes but there is one thing that matches, its their background...the sea!
Most dolphins and whales have other similarities like torpedo-like fins that make huge explosions like the ones in action movies.
I once saw this movie with torpedos that come out of the water like the whales, dolphins and porpoises do. Scientists may make a submarine that swims like whales.
